National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) is managed through an Executive Committee and a board of trustees. At present, Mr. Pranav Mehta is the Chairman of NSEFI.

Mr Deepak Gupta, Director General of the National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI), is a highly regarded civil servant of India having contributed and held several responsible positions in Public Health and New and Renewable Energy sectors. He was Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India from mid – 2008 to September 2011. He presided over the conceptualization and implementation of India’s National Solar Mission Phase – 1, which is the basis for the latest ambitious target of 100,000 MW Solar Capacity with 40,000 MW Solar Rooftop. During this time India played an active part in the setting up of IRENA. He attended several meetings of IRENA, representing the Government of India. After retirement he was Chairman of Centre for Rural Energy and Water Access, which he has set up with colleagues. He also consulted in Renewable Energy for UNIDO and World Bank and advised the Ministry of Rural Development and also West African countries. He attended several International Conferences including the one held in Ghana organised by IRENA. He was Honorary Director General of the National Solar Energy Federation of India after retiring from MNRE and was Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission, holding this constitutional position from Nov 2014 to September 2016 before returning to his old love for solar energy sector and rejoining National Solar Energy Federation of India after retiring as UPSC Chairman. He has written books on different subjects. This includes one on Energy – “Achieving Universal Energy Access in India: Challenges and Way Forward. SAGE 2015.”

Pranav Mehta

Mr. Pranav Mehta became the first chairman of NSEFI in May 2013. Nationally recognised technocrat, he has 40 years of exemplary experience of leadership within core industries such as steel, oil and gas, power, and most recently, in solar energy sector. He has held leadership positions at Reliance Petroleum Limited, Essar Group and Tata Iron and Steel Company.

buy celebrex in canada Mr. Mehta played an instrumental role in establishing India’s first natural gas based sponge iron and steel plant at Hazira, Gujarat, resulting in reducing millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions He won National Metallurgist Award from the Government of India for his contribution in setting up this example for the metallurgy sector to embrace sustainable practices.

On another front, Mr. Mehta has played a significant role in ushering in CNG not only in the mega city of Ahmedabad but also other cities of Gujarat.

Instrumental in formation of NSEFI, he has been invited to international conclaves such as those in Germany and Qatar to share his views on development of solar energy sector, and to facilitate international co-operation.


Munjal Rangwala

Mr Munjal has several years of solar industry experience and was instrumental in setting up the joint venture. He is a Director of Harsha Engineers and CEO of Harsha Abakus solar. Munjal did his Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University and holds BE in Mechanical Engineering.
He worked at a global management-consulting firm Accenture for more than 5 years in Supply Chain Strategy group. His areas of expertise include green supply chain, product life cycle management and innovation management. After Joining Harsha Engineers as a Director, he has concentrated on developing several solar offerings for the group and successfully diversified the group in solar PV sector.
Ravi Khanna

Mr Ravi Khanna serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Solar Power Business of the Aditya Birla Group- a US$40billion corporation and is based in Mumbai, India. Prior to joining the Aditya Birla Group, he worked as the CEO and President of Scatec Solar AS, Oslo, Norway and served as Director Scatec AS. He has also served as Chief Executive Officer of Moser Baer Photovoltaic Ltd., and PV Technologies India Limited.He worked at a global management-consulting firm Accenture for more than 5 years in Supply Chain Strategy group. His areas of expertise include green supply chain, product life cycle management and innovation management. After Joining Harsha Engineers as a Director, he has concentrated on developing several solar offerings for the group and successfully diversified the group in solar PV sector.

Mr. Anil Jain is the Managing Director of Refex Energy Limited, a leading solar EPC services company in India which has commissioned more than 80 MW of photovoltaic capacity, and has another 50 MW capacity in pipeline.

Instrumental in bringing together prominent industry players to formulate NSEFI, Mr. Jain is committed to strengthening the solar energy sector.

Pashupathy Gopalan (CEO, MEMC SunEdison)

Prior to SunEdison, Mr Pashupathy was with Cypress Semiconductor as their Vice President for Strategic Marketing and Corporate Business Development. He was responsible for various initiatives covering Global Market Strategy, New Business Creation, Cypress venture Fund, Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Strategy and Platform Marketing of Cypress’s Products.

Mr Gopalan’s experience and expertise includes various operating roles such as Automotive and Consumer Imaging, MA based SMaL Camera.

Mr Gopalan holds an MBA from Stanford University, MS in Materials Science and Engineering from Arizona State University, and BTech in Metallurgical Engineering from IT-BHU.

Mr Ashish Khanna joined the Tata Group in 2007 holding a series of leadership positions in Tata Power. He brings with him over 27 years of experience, having worked at leadership positions for leading Indian and multinational organizations.
In 2007 – 2009 he was Head of Contracts and Procurement of 4000 MW, 4.25 billion dollar UMPP Mundra project handling procurement, contracts management, expediting, shipping & logistics, supplier quality, materials management at project site and quantity surveyor. Later, he was responsible for contracts and procurement, as well as fuel and inventory management for the company’s plants, before taking over the present position.
He joined Bechtel in 2004 – 2007, Engineers India Limited in 1994 – 2004, Punj Lloyd Limited in 1990 – 1994 and Bharat Petroleum in 1988 – 1990.
Mr. Ashish Khanna received his Masters in Management & Systems from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 1997. He has done his BE in Mechanical from Delhi College of Engineering.

A graduate in Computer Engineering, Mr. Sundeep Gupta joined the family business in 1990 when it was a USD 5 million business. Mr. Gupta successfully steered the diversification of the group into LT/HT Switchgears and Power Solutions businesses on a global platform, making Jakson one of the largest Switchgear manufacturers in India and sole distributor of Cummins Inc. in Bangladesh.

Mr. Gupta is steering the group’s solar energy vision, and has already commissioned more than 50MW as a project developer and an EPC services provider.

Mr. Ghei has experience of more than 20 years in setting up and heading business units in leading corporates like Avery India, Honda Motorcycle & Scooters, Honda Sieletc before joining the Group in June 2001. He holds a Masters Degree in Human Relations and diploma in Law.

At Moser Baer, Mr. Ghei has been instrumental in setting up and heading the HR function for the group, before taking up the current position. Under his able guidance, Moser Baer Clean Energy has achieved the distinction of setting up India’s first 5 MW solar farm. His approach of building large portfolio across States is paying dividends as the company has commissioned 45 MW farms in Gujarat during 2011.

An Electrical and Electronics Engineer, Mr. R Chellappan started the company in 1984 and grew it to a size of 2600 employees currently. Under his leadership, Swelect was empanelled by BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency) as an ESCO (Energy Service Company), and was rated SP1A (highest for Technical and Financial Superiority) by CRISIL for MNRE accreditation for rooftop installations.

Before Swelect, Mr. Chellappan was with Sri Ramakrishna Steel Industries Limited for 8 years and Ashok Leyland Limited for 5 years.

Mr. Chellappan is an active Senior Member of Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for the last over 19 years, and Chairman of Madras chapter of IEEE’s PELS society. He is also a member of MAIT (Manufacturers’ Associate for Information Technology) as well as a member of the board of studies in the faculty of Electrical Engineering of Anna University, Chennai.

Mr. Chellappan received special achievement award from the Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu for being one of Elite group of ten outstanding entrepreneurs in the field of IT and ITES “TRAIL BLAZERS – PATH FINDERS 2011” and he was awarded the winner of the TiECon Award for “The Entrepreneur of the Year 2013”.

Mr. Kunwar Sachdev founded Su-kam Power Systems Pvt. Ltd. in 1998 and has led the company to become the top inverter solutions supplier in India. With focus on innovation, Mr. Sachdev has led Su-kam Power Systems to introduce technologies such as MOSFET, Micro controller based, DSP Sine Wave into inverters and many other power saving technologies.

Mr. Sachdev has received several accolades such as Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award (2003 and 2005), Enertia Award (2011), Top SME Entrepreneur Award (2010-2011) and Entrepreneur of the Year Award (2011), Imaan India Gaurav 2013.

Mr. Sachdev is a graduate in Mathematical Statistics and an LLB from Delhi University.

Mr. Manoj Kumar Upadhyay, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of ACME Group is responsible for strategic growth and expansion of the company in India and abroad. He has over 18 years of experience in the Power and Telecom Sectors. Earlier, as Research Engineer and, later, as Technical Head with the Telecom Power Company, BenningGmbh, Germany, Mr. Upadhyay successfully led the modification and adaptation of several critical Power Systems to suit Indian requirements.
